Corkscrews & Wine Bottle Openers

As any professional will tell you, not all corkscrews are the same. When the time comes to uncork a bottle of wine tableside, make sure your corkscrew doesn't let you down. Wine Devices offers a wide selection of wine and champagne openers, from basic to elaborate, electric to mounted, to ensure seamless removal each and every time. Additionally, a number of our corkscrews can be customized, adding a personal touch to your equipment, or as a beautiful addition to a gift.

Wine Opener Corkscrews

While there are plenty of wines out there that use screw tops these days, the reality is that you’re bound to run into more bottles that use corks in order to keep the contents fresh. One of the most essential tools in any wine enthusiast’s arsenal is a wine bottle opener. But while the concept of a wine opener is relatively straightforward, one might be surprised to know that there are several types of corkscrews beyond what they currently have in their kitchen. Let’s dive into the different types of wine openers to learn how they function and which one is the best fit for the evenings when you decide to crack open a bottle of wine.

What Is a Wine Bottle Opener?

As the name suggests, a wine bottle opener is a device used to successfully remove the cork from the wine bottle so that you can enjoy a glass of it. If you ever plan on drinking wine that doesn’t have a screw cap, you’re going to need a corkscrew to help you remove these corks.

How to Use a Corkscrew

The how behind a corkscrew really boils down to the type of corkscrew you’re using. If you’re using a basic product, you will push the screw near the center of the cork, carefully twisting it in until you’ve reached the bottom. Then, you’re going to want to gently pull it out, rocking it back and forth so as to avoid accidentally tearing it until it has successfully been removed.

Of course, this is different from a product like a waiter’s corkscrew, which features an extra lever on the end you can press on the corner of the bottle’s tip and force up with an extra handle to successfully pull the cork out. Meanwhile, a winged corkscrew allows you to simply pull the cork out by pressing down on the wings.

No matter which corkscrew you buy, make sure that you read the directions to learn how to use it so that you don’t end up ruining the cork, leaving it trapped at the top of the bottle, or breaking it apart and having to use a strainer to properly enjoy your wine each time you wish to have a glass!

Different Types of Corkscrews

Knowing the different types of corkscrews available to you will help you make the right choice. Here are some wine bottle opener variations that you should know.

Waiters Corkscrew

A waiter’s corkscrew is very similar in nature to a pocket knife, with the exception that this wine opener comes with a long arm, a corkscrew, and a lever. This makes it easier to force the cork up so that you can quickly and efficiently open up your bottle of wine.

Winged Corkscrew

If you’re not a fan of having to put a lot of force into opening up your wine, the winged corkscrew is for you. The winged corkscrew features a corkscrew section that sits perfectly on top of the bottle of wine and makes it easy to get the corkscrew into the bottle. As you twist, arms on both sides come up. Once you’ve gotten the corkscrew all the way down to the bottom, simply push these two wings down to pop the cork right up!

Twin Prong Cork Puller

The twin-prong cork puller is a wine bottle opener that many may not be familiar with. Rather than opening up a bottle of wine by forcing a screw through the cork, this wine bottle opener instead uses two prongs designed to fit on either side of the wine bottle between the neck and the cork. This can help you pull out the cork without doing any damage to it, which can allow you to reuse the cork to keep your wine fresher.

Lever Corkscrew

Lever corkscrews are a lot bulkier than their counterparts but are actually quite efficient once you get over their intimidating design. Lever corkscrews provide you with a handle on the end that helps you latch onto the top of the bottle and a lever that quickly burrows into the cork. Just hold the corkscrew in place, push the lever back to get the corkscrew into the cork, and push it down to pull it out.

Mounted Corkscrew

A mounted corkscrew refers to corkscrews that were built into kitchens as a means to open wine bottles more efficiently without having to struggle with a handheld device. If you’re someone who enjoys wine frequently, you might want a counter-mounted or wall-mounted wine corkscrew!

Screwpull

The screwpull does exactly what it sounds like it does, pulling out the cork without having to pull at all. Simply attach the corkscrew's body around the top of the bottle of wine, twist in, and watch it pull itself out!

Pocket

A pocket corkscrew is any type of wine opener that’s designed to be compact and easy to carry with you.

Wholesale Wine Opener Corkscrew

Whether you’re a seller of corkscrews and other wine-based items or you’re looking to get your hands on corkscrews that you can customize for a special event like a wedding, buying wholesale wine openers can be a great way to purchase corkscrews in bulk while saving money. No matter which types of corkscrews you need (although it will generally be easier to get your hands on more popular versions of the corkscrew) always consider going the wholesale route when you need to purchase large quantities!

Corkscrews are an essential tool if you ever plan on enjoying a bottle of wine by yourself. That being said, these wine bottle openers come in so many different forms. From waiter’s corkscrews to screwpulls, you’ll find that there are plenty of options out there to try for yourself. Use the guide above to learn more about all of the different types of wine openers on the market and discover how to use them so that you can enjoy your wine right away once you get your hands on your new corkscrew of choice!
